A proud honour to have recieved for responding to an emergency callout during the 2022-2023 floods. I recieved the call halfway through a university lecture, and recorded the rest of the lecture to enable my response. Although we managed to rapidly setup the rescue boats in time for an emergency deployment, the rain luckily subsided. The flooding did result in the first floor of a nearby school to be partially underwater and nearby cars to float. We had already undergone flood training prior for such a callout.

Surf lifesaving really makes 'leverage the strengths and make up for the weaknesses' a fundamental tenant when it comes to managing a busy and often troublesome beach like Manly. As someone who has patrolled with the club for over a decade you start to learn what works and what doesn't work in a team when an actual incident takes place.
